Global entertainment company Rakuten TV have appointed leading entertainment marketing and publicity agency, Strike Media, to look after their UK corporate and consumer PR after a competitive pitch.

Rakuten, which recently rebranded its Video On Demand service, from Wuaki to Rakuten TV, have recently lain down the gauntlet to other streaming services such as Amazon, iTunes & Netflix, and stated ambitions to increase its reach across the UK, which already has over 1 million members. Strike Media’s appointment will help them achieve that.

Wez Merchant, founder of Strike Media expressed his delight in the partnership by saying ” We are thrilled to have been selected to represent Rakuten TV in the UK. This sector is becoming increasingly competitive and we are looking forward to helping Rakuten TV grow in terms of awareness within trade circles, with consumers and also within the film industry itself.”

Rakuten, which in Japanese stands for ‘optimism’, was created in 1997, with a team of just six employees. The company now has 1 Billion members across the globe, operating in 29 countries.

Last year, Rakuten became the first-ever Global Innovations and Entertainment Partner of FC Barcelona, who signed a four year deal with the Spanish giants, believed to be one of the biggest of its kind.
